We are delighted to announce that the Honourable John McKechnie AO, KC has joined Murray Chambers as our inaugural Retired Judge in Residence.
John McKechnie brings with him a remarkable legacy of service and expertise. He was Western Australia’s first Director of Public Prosecutions, a long-serving and senior Justice of the Supreme Court, and most recently, a Commissioner of the Corruption and Crime Commission. He is also a respected author, having written one of the leading texts on criminal law, as well as the engaging memoir My Life in Crime.
Beyond his judicial and literary contributions, Mr McKechnie has been a dedicated educator in advocacy and judicial training. He has taught at the University of Western Australia, the University of Notre Dame, Murdoch University, Curtin University, and across the legal profession. His involvement in judicial education is longstanding and spans both State and Interstate appointments.
Mr McKechnie’s decision to take up residence underscores the core values of our chambers – the pursuit of excellence, dedication to service, compassion, collegiality and humility.
